Seniors yoga class – healthy ageing

Runs each week at 10am on Wednesday and is taught by Rita Kreileman. This is a slow-paced class. Students under 60 are able to attend if they are looking for a slow-paced class.

Iyengar yoga is multicultural, and multigenerational as it crosses all boundaries between nationalities, age and capacities where it connects the multiple layers of
body, mind, soul & spirit. Through mindful actions and dynamic movements, with an intelligent method of prop use and body-mind awareness it is a boon for those who have the privilege of reaching higher age in life. We are never too old to start yoga or continue our practice as B.K.S. Iyengar himself embodied by doing yoga until he passed away at 93 years of age.

In the Seniors Yoga class you will be given a clear structure with precise instructions to experience the benefits of regular yoga practise in our well-equipped spacious studio with professional IY Teachers. You will build up a thorough understanding of alignment – physical, physiological and energetic in relation to healthy ageing. It is important to maintain steadiness and stability, good bone density, muscle strength, mental clarity and concentration with a positive mindset.

Specific focus is on grounding, steadiness, and effective energy management through asana (postural alignment) and pranayama (breathing) to nurture your
physiological systems giving you a sense of control over your own well-being through vitality, joy de vivre, and light-ness of heart.

Please inform your teacher before class of any health issues, current or in the past, such as history of heart surgery, high blood pressure, glaucoma, arthritis and
osteoporosis, and/or mental, visual or auditive disabilities so we can support you well. If you have a medical condition, we advise you to see your GP or medical health specialist for treatments.
