Practicing yoga regularly is an ideal way to support a healthy pregnancy and help develop a calmness of mind and a sense of wellbeing - things that can be hard to find when your body is busy developing a baby!
Our pre-natal class is one of our most popular classes, and we think it's because our students know they're in safe hands during this delicate time. We adhere to the regulations set by the Iyengar Yoga Association of Australia which ensures that pre-natal classes are only taught by senior, experienced teachers who have completed a specialised pre-natal yoga teaching course.
Our class is led by our Senior Teacher Marina Jung, one of Melbourne's most senior female Iyengar Yoga teachers with 20 years teaching experience. She's assisted by former midwife Rosie Hallinan, who's also got a wealth of yoga teaching experience.
Our pre-natal yoga class runs every Saturday at 2pm, all year round. The class is one-and-a-half hours and no booking is required. All yoga props, including mats and blankets, are supplied, but you may bring your own yoga mat if you wish. Minimal yoga experience required.
Our studio is conveniently located near Melbourne's CBD in Clifton Hill, right near the trams on Queens Parade. Our studio is light and bright and is a great place to find some calm in the week on a Saturday afternoon.
During pregnancy there are immense physiological and emotional changes. Pre-natal yoga is designed to promote optimal physical and emotional well-being in the pregnant woman and prepare her for childbirth.
Emphasis is placed on posture, strengthening and extension of the spine, and creating space for the baby to move freely. Particular attention is placed on breathing.
Yoga aids in relieving fatigue, backache and indigestion. It improves circulation, breathing and quietens the nervous system.
